Senator Tartaglione is sponsoring legislation that proposes to deal with sexual harassment in the workplace by expanding Pennsylvania’s Human Relations Act to cover more workers. Sen. Tartaglione’s bill is part of a package of legislation authored by Senate and House Democrats and supported by Gov. Wolf.
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month in Pennsylvania. Senator Tartaglione has sponsored a Senate Resolution encouraging communities to speak out against sexual violence in order to prevent it.

Supporters of House Bill 1520, legislation to raise the minimum wage in Pennsylvania, rallied in the Rotunda of the State Capitol. They were joined by Senator Tartaglione, sponsor of a similar bill in the Senate. The bill would raise Pennsylvania’s minimum wage to $12.00 per hour on January 1st of next year, and by an additional 50 cents per hour each year until 2024, when the minimum wage would be $15.00 per hour. Beginning in 2025, the minimum wage would receive a cost-of-living adjustment every year.
Senator Tartaglione joined hundreds of Teamsters gathered on the steps of the State Capitol to protest legislation that is currently being considered in the General Assembly, bills that the unions have labeled “anti-union.”

The PA Senate has passed legislation providing 15 million dollars to the Department of Labor and Industry that will be used to re-hire unemployment call center workers who were laid off late last year. The layoffs came after Senate Republicans refused to renew temporary funding for the offices until they received an accounting of how the money was spent. Senator Tartaglione says this led to long waits for those who were out of work and filing for benefits. Today’s funding should put at least 300 of those workers back on the job.

In remarks on the Senate Floor, Senator Tartaglione reminded state lawmakers that June 30th is the 10th anniversary of the last time the state legislature voted to increase the minimum wage in Pennsylvania to $7.25 an hour. The Philadelphia lawmaker, who is the Democratic Chair of the Senate Labor & Industry Committee, again urged her colleagues to pass legislation increasing the minimum wage in Pennsylvania.
Senator Tartaglione joined fellow Senate Democrats and representatives of human service agencies at a press conference at the Capitol in Harrisburg to say that the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission (PHRC) has been devastated by recurring state budget cuts. She says the state budget now being developed needs to address funding shortfalls for the PHRC and similar agencies.
