Philadelphia, PA, January 20, 2026 – State Senator Christine Tartaglione (D–2, Philadelphia) announced today that $858,289 in state funding has been awarded to support pedestrian infrastructure and streetscape improvements at the Frankford Transportation Center, a critical transit hub in Northeast Philadelphia. The funding was awarded through Pennsylvania’s Multimodal Transportation Fund, which invests in projects that strengthen economic development and ensure safe, reliable transportation across the Commonwealth.
The grant will support the Frankford Transportation Center’s Transit Oriented Development project and will fund enhancements including pedestrian safety improvements, upgraded streetscape features, and better connectivity to surrounding transportation assets. These investments will improve access for commuters, residents, and small businesses while supporting long-term, transit-oriented growth in the neighborhood.
“The Frankford Transportation Center is a lifeline for so many people in my district who rely on public transit to get to work, school, and essential services,” said Senator Tartaglione. “This investment makes our streets safer, improves walkability, and helps ensure that development around this hub works for the people who use it every day.”
The Multimodal Transportation Fund supports projects that develop, rehabilitate, and enhance transportation assets in existing communities, including sidewalks, lighting, pedestrian safety improvements, and transit-oriented development. Grants are available for projects with total costs of $100,000 or more, with awards of up to $3 million per project.
Senator Tartaglione emphasized that investments like this are essential for her district. “When we invest in infrastructure around transit hubs, we’re investing in workers, families, and economic opportunity,” she said. “This funding will help strengthen the Frankford community and keep our transportation system safe, accessible, and reliable.”
Applications for the Multimodal Transportation Fund are accepted annually between March 1 and July 31, with awards approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority later in the year.
